The Department of Children and Families Public Benefits and Assistance help promote strong and economically self-sufficient communities by determining eligibility for food, cash, and medical assistance for individuals and families in Florida.

K2I breaks down the barriers that prevent teens experiencing foster care or homelessness from obtaining their driver’s license. We provide the guidance, resources, and financial support needed to empower young adults to gain their independence and achieve success.

In Florida, young adults in extended foster care can get healthcare coverage from Sunshine Health’s Child Welfare Specialty Plan until age 21. This program is designed especially for you.

The Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) initiative makes Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) assistance available to Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) in partnership with Public Child Welfare Agencies (PCWAs).

Applying for public assistance benefits is free. Clients can apply online for free by using the Office of Economic Self Sufficiency Self Service Portal or by visiting a DCF Community Partner.
